Cook mode

Follow a recipe one step at a time with timers and a screen that stays on.

Open a recipe and choose Start cooking. Cook mode shows one step at a time in large text, keeps your screen on, and lists just the ingredients that step needs.

Move through the steps

  • Choose Next and Previous, swipe left and right on a phone, or use the arrow keys on a keyboard.

  • Tap the circle beside a step to mark it done.

  • The list icon at the top opens All steps so you can jump anywhere.

Timers

Any time written in a step, like "40 minutes", becomes a Start 40 min timer button. Steps with a saved timer get one too. You can run several at once. They sit in a bar at the top where you can pause, resume or cancel them, and when one finishes it chimes and vibrates until you choose Dismiss.

Ingredients

Open the Ingredients checklist to tick things off as you go. If you changed servings on the recipe page, it says Scaled to N servings and shows the scaled amounts.

Hands-free

Choose the microphone at the top of cook mode to turn on hands-free. Each step is read aloud, and you can say next, back, repeat, start timer, stop timer, ingredients or stop listening. The last command it heard shows at the top. Your browser asks for the microphone the first time. If it's blocked, allow the microphone for the site in your browser settings.

In browsers that can't listen, the same button reads steps aloud without voice commands. The setting is remembered on each device.

When you're done

After the last step you'll see All steps complete! with I made this to log it, and Back to recipe. Exit cooking mode leaves at any time.
